RISE or fall

RISE will be the new standard for evaluating teachers in the state of Indiana. Do you agree that there should be a common set of standards upon which all teachers in all disciplines should be measured by? Or should evaluation be left to decisionmakers at the local level?

  1. This will be very different for teacher evaluations. I am going to keep data on my student progress to provide growth from year to year. I think there are many faults with this evaluation process. I do think any large scale evaluation will have similar issues.

  2. I don't think my school is using the RISE evaluation. I know the state is promoting RISE, but I think they left it up to the corporations.

    1. I didn't make my last post very clear. I don't think we are using RISE, but we are using an evaluation created by my corporation.

    2. My school is also not using RISE. We developed our system and are implementing it next year. My blog refers to the same topic...teacher evaluations. To me it's about psoitive leadership and people who want to be good teachers. I worry about trying to create a "business" model because education is not the business world.

With the correct leaders in place and a community that values education (another big key) supporting the school I think this could be a positive step for us.

I like the fact that my school made their own evaluation process (had to be approved by the state) and that all schools had this option.
